Summer explodes in the village

Grand Opening June 22nd

Summer has arrived in our little French village, Causses-et-Veyran.  The heat like a wall, the cicadas running at full speed and rosé wine always within reach. Everything is just as it should be. Yet, not quite. Because something has happened. We had a wedding. A Swedish wedding. For three days, almost four.

It was grand. It was wonderful. It was completely crazy. The village probably still has glitter in the gutter and Scandinavian tunes lingering among the leaves of the plane trees. The couple got married with the village as their witness and local producers supplying food and wine. What a wedding it was, and now we continue straight into the swirling heart of summer.

When summer arrives, there isn’t much time for a break. Posters about village parties, wine festivals, flea markets, various other markets and music events pop up faster than you can reply to a text message.

And me? I’ve tried to be involved in everything. But my body is protesting. It’s impossible to live at a constant festival pace, charming as it may be. Especially when the sun blazes as if it wants to fry your soul on low heat and serve it with a sprig of rosemary. That’s when you start to compromise. You say yes to things in the shade and skip events like “picnics” and during “the afternoon.” That’s out of the question. If you are going to go, it must preferably be in the evening in safe shade and ideally with a chance for cross-ventilation. And the best sound you know these days is hardly music and applause but rather the hum of an air conditioner.

It’s all about making choices. A music night here, a wine tasting there, a glass in the shade at a neighbor's and of course our Friday tradition “After(no)Work in the square.” And then the moments of silence when you just sit and stare at the grapevines that grow almost visibly while the cicadas play their electric soundtrack to life in the countryside.

You forget every year how hot it gets when it gets hot. And you forget every year how wonderful it is anyway.

Amid all this, in the midst of wedding euphoria and the explosion of summer, we officially OPENED OUR GALLERY, Galerie Causses, on Sunday (June 22). And people came! Despite the heat, despite the fact that they probably would rather have been lying by a stream with a cold ice cream in hand, YOU CAME! We are so happy. So moved. So sweaty, but in the very best way.

So here I sit now, happy, a little sun-tired, with remnants of confetti in my shoes and a heart overflowing. And summer has just begun.
